NME contents page

This contents page has 7 main images within it, this is to show clues and sneek peeks on the stories within the magazine. It also has big numbers underneath the pictures to ensure that the readers know exacly where to look in the magazine.
This contents page also has a huge advertising space at the bottom, this will bring in a lot of money for the magazine and ensure that it can continue in business.
The main colours used in this contents page are black, white and red. These are very simple colours.

The white backround is used to bring full attention to the main images and stories so the reader isn't distracted by big, glossy and colourful backround images.

The black has been used for the writing within the contents page. This is because black writing stands out very well on white backrounds.

Finally the red has been used to simply draw attention to the advertising in the bottom right.

Kerrang Cover analysis

This title is also behind the main image to ensure that the main image stands out even more. It is in black and white which sounds simple, but in this issue the font is used very effectively. This font is very in relating to teenagers, it is very much like graffiti which is "cool" to todays youths.

The main image is a photo of famous UK band. They seem to be posing in a very intimidating way, this signifies that they are tough and like no one would cross them.

There are also several smaller images along the bottom and left hand side of the magazine, this is to show sneek looks at other stories within the magazine, if the readers know what they are buying like in this magazine, they are more likely to but the magazine. This was simply done to make more money.
There is use of teenage slang within the magazine e.g. "OOH" and "WAH". This is to further connect with the reader of the magazine and sell more issues of the magazine.
Finally the main story is very eye catching because it is placed upon the main image, so the readers eyes are diverted to it.

NME cover analysis

Starting with the title of the magazine, it is in its usual placement in the top left hand side. This has been seen in all NME magazines and has obviously show effective throughout the publications life. The title is placed behind the main image slightly.

The main image is very eye catching because it is placed in the centre of the page. It is a blow up image of Elliott Smith which is also shown in big blue writing under the imange to make sure the readers eyes are drawn to it. This is also very glossy which will definetly appeal to the readers.

The colour scheme is very basic to make sure the reader isn't too confused by the front cover. The colours are white, black and blue which seem to work very well together.

This cover of NME also has some mystery to it which will definetly attract readers "The haunted life and mysterious death of Elliott Smith". This title has a lot of scandle in it and it is a well know fact, scandal sells.

contents

This is my mock up of my contents page. I have decided to place my page numbers and and information on my stories in the centre to attract readers eyes and ensure that everyone knows exacly where to look in my magazine.
I have placed images on the left hand side and also on the bottom because they are eye catching and also helps to section away the text so it is more noticable.
The grey boxes are not what i would use in my actual contents page. Instead i would most probably use a picture of the school in the backround.
Finally i have placed an advertising space in the bottom right hand corner to not take away focus on the actual text and images. It is also there to bring in more money for the magazine so more can be produced.

School Magazine

This is my final version of my school magazine. I have a huge picture of a girl in the backround. She is clearly angry because the male in the picture dumped her without any reason. I have made her larger to show that she is filled with rage and sadness over being left. I also placed her overlapping the mast heading slightly to make her stand out even more
I have the male posed in a sort of "presenting" way to show how he is completely in love with himself and considers himself too good for the girl.
I have the words "Teen Dramas" between the two quotes from the male and the female. this is to show a split in opinions between the two of them.
The main colours i have used are red, blue and yellow. These are simple but attractive colours and also the red will attract readers eyes.
I have used "text talk" in my mast heading to further relate to a teenage audience. The words "FTW" means "For the Win". This is something that teenages would find appealing.

Reunited At Last

After a VERY long separation Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams have finally performed live together. This is the first time they have performed live together in around 15 years, and they are still as good as ever. They both completely rocked the stage at the Help For Heroes concert with their new single "Shame". Barlow and Williams said: "It's great that people like Shame so much and we can't wait to perform it live for the first time."
This great concert is a look into Take That's future with Williams, which will hopefully be a long and fruitful one. :)

First attempt at creating my Smithdon magazine front cover.

This is my first attempt at a front cover for my Smithdon High School Magazine. I have experimented with placements of various things, e.g. placement of my mast head, main picture ect...
I have also decided on what fonts to use. I used childish fonts for the Mast head and title because it will attract the eyes of the students. I chose a more formal font for the story snippets because it is a lot more easier to read and school children wouldn't enjoy illegable writing.
This is not the colour scheme i will be following when it comes along to acutally producing my front page. The colours were simple used to seperate the different boxes and show how the writing overlaps my main image. Instead i will use three different colours so not to overcomplicate the front page. Instead i will use bold, simple and noticeable colours, e.g. red and blue, to ensure that it is easily seen and liked by the readers at school.
